My Story

From product sales to purposeful planning — 16 years in the making.

Liberty Life — Where It Began

My career in financial services started at Liberty Life, one of South Africa's largest life assurance companies. It was a thorough education in financial products — life cover, investment plans, disability protection, and the mechanics of how financial instruments are structured and sold.

But it was also where I learned something more important than any product: that a financial product without the right strategy behind it is almost worthless. Clients were being sold solutions to problems that hadn't been properly diagnosed. Cover amounts were guessed rather than calculated. Investment choices were driven by commission structures rather than client outcomes.

I learned what good financial planning was not. That education shaped everything that followed.

Standard Bank Wealth — Where Strategy Met Consequence

Moving into Standard Bank's wealth division was a significant shift — in the complexity of the clients, the sophistication of the planning required, and the real-world consequences of getting advice wrong.

Working with high-net-worth individuals and business owners, I encountered the full spectrum of financial complexity: large investment portfolios spanning multiple platforms, estates with intricate beneficiary structures, businesses with succession planning gaps that could have unravelled years of hard work, and retirement transitions where the wrong decision would have been irreversible.

It was here that I developed the conviction that financial planning at the level these clients needed was not just a financial discipline — it was a legal one too. The decisions that mattered most were at the intersection of money and law. And I wanted to be equipped to operate in both.

Building the Qualifications — Deliberately

Alongside my career, I pursued qualifications with a specific purpose in mind — not just to meet regulatory requirements, but to genuinely expand what I could offer clients.

The LLB gave me the legal framework to understand how financial structures actually work in law — how estates are administered, how trusts are constituted and challenged, how business agreements hold up under pressure, and how beneficiary nominations interact with wills and the Pension Funds Act.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Investment Planning and Financial Planning gave me the academic depth to approach investment portfolios as a strategist rather than a product selector — understanding asset allocation theory, return drivers, portfolio construction, and the evidence behind long-term wealth creation.

The CFP® designation brought it all together under the gold standard of the financial planning profession — requiring rigorous examination, ongoing professional development, and adherence to a strict ethical code.

Each qualification was deliberate. Together, they form a combination that is genuinely rare in the South African financial planning landscape.

Efficient Wealth — Where I Am Today

Since 2022, I have operated through the Efficient Wealth network in Potchefstroom — an authorised FSP with access to a comprehensive range of investment platforms, insurance providers, and financial products.

The move was a deliberate choice. Efficient Wealth's independent model means I am not tied to any single product house or asset manager. My recommendations are driven by what is right for each client — not by product relationships or distribution agreements. The platform gives me the tools. The independence gives my clients the confidence that the advice is genuinely in their interest.

My practice today is focused entirely on clients who need more than standard advice: high-income earners, business owners, and families who have built something significant and want a financial partner who can match that seriousness — with the qualifications, the experience, and the commitment to plan with genuine precision.

What Has Never Changed

Across every role, every qualification, and every client relationship over 16 years, one thing has remained constant: the belief that the best financial plans are built on more than numbers.

They are built on a clear understanding of what each client values, what they are protecting, and the kind of legacy they want to leave. That conviction sits at the heart of every conversation I have — and every plan I build.
